In this Tech Talk, Network Rail's Andy Cross and Ahmad Kamara share how the Flow bridge project is challenging ways in which engineers in the transport sector can use offsite and DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) to design and deliver more efficient structures. They discuss the importance of early collaboration to drive innovation in design, plus the next steps for using offsite solutions across other sites in future.
Learning outcomes
After watching this video, you will:
- Understand where the barriers are to offsite construction and DfMA in transport infrastructure and why targeted application, componentisation and radical design thinking can drive change
- Have learnt how clients and teams are using an offsite-first approach to create innovative schemes, collaborate with new suppliers and challenge regulations and standards
- Have gained insight into the potential application of this thinking to wider transport projects and to a more holistic approach to design
